Winter 2018 Events (Jan to Apr)

BTG (Bridging the Gap) Game Nights

  • Who: Beginners or new people wanting to try out wheelchair basketball.
  • What: Basic skills, drills, and games!
  • Where: Richmond Olympic Oval (6111 River Rd, Richmond)
  • When: 3 Mondays (Jan 8th, Feb 5th, Mar 5th) | 7:00pm - 9:00pm

BRIDGING the Gap 2.0

  • Who: New and seasoned players looking for skills development and playing time in the Lower Mainland.
  • What: Program for those that are new to the game, enjoy playing, looking for skill development and to develop the sport of wheelchair basketball. If there is enough interest, we may schedule game nights with teams/officials as well.
  • Where: Brittania Community Centre, 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver
  • When: 8 Fridays (Jan 12th, 26th, Feb 2nd, 16th, Mar 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd) | 6:30pm - 8:45pm
  • Extras: We will have guest coaches once and awhile come out to share their knowledge. Pre-Registration Required: LINK.

Breakers' Women's Only Training Nights

  • Who: Women of all ages and skill levels!
  • What: Marni will be coaching these nights and bringing her expertise and compete level out every Monday!
  • Where: Richmond Olympic Oval (6111 River Rd, Richmond)
  • When: 9 Mondays (Jan 15th, 22nd, 29th, Feb 12th, 19th, 26th, Mar 12th, 19th, 26th) | 7:00pm - 9:00pm

GF Strong Nights

  • Who: Community members and in-patients of GF Strong.
  • What: Come out and learn the very basics!
  • Where: GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre (4255 Laurel St, Vancouver)
  • When: 3 Thursdays (Jan 25th, Feb 15th, Mar 15th) | 6:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Extras: No cost, waiver form filled out on-site, membership not required. Please connect with Orion ( to confirm you will be attending.

Wheelchair Basketball at UBC

  • Who: Drop-in is FREE for UBC Students, Staff, and UNA Members. Otherwise $5.50 fee for general public.
  • What: No experience necessary, all equipment provided. Please dress appropriately (no baggy clothing, closed-toe shoes)
  • Where: UBC Student Recreation Centre (6000 Student Union Blvd, Vancouver)
  • When: 5 Fridays (Jan 26th, Feb 9th, Feb 16th, Mar 9th, Mar 23rd) | 6:00pm - 8:00pm

2018 Jr. ID Camp (formerly U19 camp)

  • Who: Anyone between the ages of 14-19 is welcome to come out! Exceptions can be made.
  • What: Time for athletes to come out and experience the high performance atmosphere and also to further develop their skills.
  • Where: Trinity Western University (7600 Glover Rd, Langley)
  • When: Fri, Feb 9th to Mon, Feb 12th | Schedule: Fri (5:30-8:30pm), Sat+Sun (9-5pm), Mon (9-3pm).

BC Breakers Festival

  • Who: All females! Spectators are welcome to watch.
  • What: Event open to all females to grow and develop their skills and also potentially play in some tournament games.
  • Where: Spectrum Community School (957 Burnside Rd W, Victoria)
  • When: Sat, Feb 17th to Sun, Feb 18th | Schedule: TBD
  • Extras: Registration required - LINK. Groups travelling in from Edmonton, Calgary, Seattle to participate.

Recap of the weekend had the Edmonton Inferno finishing with a 4-0 record. The Calgary Rollers and BC Breakers each finished 1-3.

BC Winter Games 2018

  • Who: Pre-determined teams/athletes! Spectators are welcome to come watch!
  • What: Biennial event that brings together BC's best emerging high performance athletes, coaches, and officials for four days of competition.
  • Where: Sa-Hali Secondary School (255 Arrowstone Dr, Kamloops)
  • When: Thu, Feb 22nd to Sun, Feb 25th 
  • Extras: Teams and athletes will be contacted prior with more information and logistic information. BC Games website.

Have A Go Multi Sport Day at GF Strong

  • Who: Open to inpatients, outpatients, communty members who pre-register- that want to try new wheelchair sports, new skills in various sports like wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball.

BC-CWBL March Tournament

  • Who: Spectators are welcome to come watch!
  • What: 4th league tournament!
  • Where: Kelowna Secondary School (1079 Raymer Ave, Kelowna)
  • When: Sat, Mar 17th to Sun, Mar 18th | Schedule is TBD and will be circulated to teams prior.
  • Extras: Teams will be notified once we are able to confirm the exact location and weekend.

2018 CWBL Women's National Championship

  • Who: Top female club teams from across Canada competing to be the best in wheelchair basketball! Spectators are welcome to come watch!
  • What: Fast-paced action of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League for club teams across Canada to determine who is the number one.
  • Where: Richmond Olympic Oval (6111 River Rd, Richmond)
  • When: Fri, Apr 6th to Sun, Apr 8th | Schedule TBD.
  • Extras: Teams coming in from across Canada.

  • What: Finals tournament! Bragging rights are on the line.

  • Who: Spectators are welcome to come watch!
  • What: 3rd league tournament! Teams travel from around the province and even Washington to compete.
  • Where: Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (4371 Interurban Rd, Victoria) AND Spectrum Community School (957 Burnside Rd W, Victoria)
  • When: Sat, Jan 20th to Sun, Jan 21st
  • Extras: Teams have been emailed information as well as registration links.

Canada Games Tournament

  • Who: Young athletes from across Canada representing their provinces in wheelchair basketball! Spectators are welcome to come watch!
  • What: Organized tournament to have upper echelon young athletes compete at scheduled tournaments.
  • Where: Timms Community Centre (20399 Douglas Cres, Langley)
  • When: Sat, Jan 27th to Sun, Jan 28th | Schedule HERE.
